Tibor Kovács undertook his studies at the International Violin Making School "Antonio Stradivari" in Cremona, in 1996. At the same time, he enrolled in the Regional School of Bow Making, obtaining his degree in 1998. Same year, he started working with his master Emilio Slaviero, who trained him to make modern and baroque bows and introduced him to restoration techniques as well. After a few more years combining his studies with his activity in the workshop, he got his violin maker diploma in 2001.
In January 2003, he moved to Paris. He worked for Jean François Raffin as his assistant for three years, improving noticeably both his technique and style.
In 2011 he set up a partnership with the violin maker Guy Coquoz, at Rue de Rome 46.
